On the 10th-13th of May, 2018 Gallery Weekend Kaunas (GWK) will take place for the third time. A continuous event operates as a part of the global initiative and is one of the initial events of this kind not only in Lithuania, but in the Baltic countries as well.
The beginning of GW in 2016 was marked by a three-day programme, expanded through 11 gallery and other spaces, opened on the occasion of the weekend. On the second year GWK team gathered not only 16 galleries and other spaces, but also opened an abandoned four-story former bank building. The latter became an infocenter of Gallery Weekend Kaunas – “Arts Bank” with a wide variety of events like exhibitions, performative, educational programmes. Several site-specific exhibitions in T.Ivanauskas Museum of Zoology, Kaunas M.K.Čiurlionis Picture Gallery became the highlights of the GWK 2017 route.
We are entering the third year of GWK with a renewed dominant part of the visual identity – the balancing, energising red and orange colors. We will seek to promote the dialogue between galleries and artists, also to encourage site-specific projects. After two years of exploration of the interior sites, this year we are promoting projects for the public spaces.
The initiator of Gallery Weekend Kaunas is Andrius Pukis, organisers of the event: “POST“ gallery, Kaunas Photography Gallery, transient space “Kabinetas“, the VMU art gallery “101“.
